For outdoor signs in the UAE, stainless steel and aluminium are the most durable materials, and acrylic is the most common choice for illuminated letters. The right choice depends on where the sign is installed, how it is lit, and the look your brand needs.

• Acrylic. Lightweight, available in many colours and easy to cut into detailed letters. Popular for indoor signs, reception walls and illuminated letters, because light passes through it evenly.
• Stainless steel. Strong, premium-looking and resistant to rust. Available in mirror, brushed, gold and rose-gold finishes. Often used for shop fronts, hotels and corporate entrances.
• Aluminium. Light and rust-resistant, so it suits large outdoor letters. It is usually painted or powder-coated in the brand colour.
• Aluminium composite panel (ACP). Flat, rigid panels used for sign backgrounds, fascias and building cladding behind 3D letters.
• PVC foam board. An economical option for indoor, non-illuminated letters and temporary signs.
• Brass and copper. Used for luxury and heritage looks. They develop a natural patina over time unless they are sealed.

• Front-lit. Light shines through the face of the letters, making the whole letter glow. Easy to read at night.
• Back-lit (halo). Light shines from behind the letters onto the wall, creating a soft halo. A premium look for metal letters.
• Front and back-lit. Combines both effects for maximum visibility.
• Non-illuminated. No lighting. The lowest cost option, suited to indoor walls or areas lit by spotlights.

• Heat and sun. Strong sun can fade cheap colours and warp thin plastics, so outdoor signs need UV-stable materials and quality paint.
• Humidity and salt. Coastal areas such as Abu Dhabi and Dubai Marina need rust-resistant metals like stainless steel or aluminium.
• Dust and sand. Sealed letters and LED modules keep dust out and reduce maintenance.
• Mall rules. Malls and landlords often specify materials, depth and lighting, so check their sign guidelines before production.
